Restaurants need to be two things, hygienic and welcoming but achieving these two things in tandem in terms of flooring can sometimes be a challenge. However, we have devised this handy checklist below to outline some of the things to consider when choosing flooring for the various areas of your restaurant.
Flooring your restaurant waiting area is key to making customers comfortable. Patrons will be spending time here waiting to be seated, so it is important that the space is aesthetically pleasing and relaxing. It's also the first impression that guests will have of your business, and as we know, first impressions are everything.
We would recommend carpet tiles for your restaurant waiting area as they are low-maintenance and can be easily cleaned, if any spills occur.
The dining room is arguably the most important part of your restaurant, where guests need to feel welcome and comfortable. A warm, cosy feel is also important in this area, so hardwood, laminate, or a wood-like flooring type such as Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LTV) Karndean or Amtico would be ideal. This flooring has the advantage of presenting the stylish veneer of real wood, whilst being much easier to maintain. It also has the advantage of being easy to keep clean should spillages occur.
The commercial kitchen is obviously a busy, high-traffic area and so requires flooring that can withstand constant use, is resistant to slipping, and is easy to clean. Vinyl flooring (LVT or sheet flooring) or ceramic tiles are both good options for this as they are both durable and water-resistant. Tiles are a great option as they can be replaced individually rather than having to replace the entire floor, which could be hugely disruptive to service.
Another area where hygiene and comfort take priority, the restrooms in your restaurant need to be safe, durable and easy to maintain. We would recommend Altro, Gerflor, Tarkett or Polyflor flooring as they all offer a range of water-resistant products that are also easy to keep clean.
Whatever type of commercial restaurant flooring you decide on, it is important to make sure you get a product that is fit for purpose and will stand the test of time.
